A big fish

I had an interview for one good near-research, administrative position last Wednesday. The very fact that they noticed my CV and INVITED me for the 1st interview is significant. The salary is 30-35k euros per year, and the person should work really hard, and start straight away (adieu, summer!), making sometimes difficult decisions.

However, they chose another person. Disappointed as I got the decision, I should be perhaps rather happy that it wasn’t me who was chosen ’cause I’m really not sure that such a kind of administrative highly responsible and emotionally hard slavery has any monetary equivalent, and I am not sure that I would be able to endure all the challenges of the job.

At the same time, we had a really wonderful conceptual conversation with the employer. Wish him every success in his missions!

Hi, I’m back

Hi, I’m back to Paris from my Ukrainian winter holidays. There’s no winter this year in Kyiv and elsewhere: seems like Ukraine has become Europe, as there’s no snow in Europe too.

I’m back to my search for a better – financially – life. Got an annual stay permission allowing to look for a job during one year and to start working full-time but according to my education, or to create an enterprise (be self-employed). Got some ideas, but too lazy to start working on them… I also have to prepare my post-doc thesis for publication, but I’m not capable yet to return to the text. If they say I’ll not obtain my diploma if I don’t make the necessary corrections, there’ll be a good stimulus.

Meanwhile, I continue cleaning houses 🙂 I wish I had more work to do. Absence of work is demoralizing.

Je repars Ă  zĂ©ro

VoilĂ  one week left until I defend my post-doc diploma. What have I got? No regular babysitting, no housecleaning at all, no other job, no ideas what to do next. Got enough money to pay the rent for the next month (670 euros), but nothing to buy food and monthly transport pass, nothing to celebrate the end of my studies just after the defense (to offer some drinks to my professors and to the friends who will be there).

A lonely Mister (I think he’s about his 70s) is trying to persuade me to not only clean his flat, but also to do massage. “I’ll pay you more. Nobody will know… But I’ll pay you more than for the cleaning… But we will know each other… I’ll pay you. I am single”. Oh my GOD, poor man! No, Sir, I wish you good luck in your (I think quite desperate) search. I’ve already tried once and run as quickly as possible. The man (Michel, comedy actor) who said on the phone he was 48, was in fact about 58. He wanted massage sensuel. You get naked so that it gets a bit sexy, you mass my whole body, you mass my penis, the aim is to excite me. 50 euros per hour.

NO I’m not going to do that! to mass your cock, are you crazy? – What’s the problem? You know, you imply moral judgment, you refuse an interesting sensual experience! – Yes, I do, I don’t need it. I was really lucky he was not a maniaс. So I run away veeeery quickly and he let me run. F…..ck!

I’ve never thought it’s possible that all the small jobs one manages to find disappear almost simultaneously. Maybe a golden era is waiting for me and the gods deprive me of all the non-qualified jobs? Or are they trying to tell me, “Valeria, it’s better that you prepare your presentation, spend more time on it!” Thanks, gods, I appreciate. But could you please also show me the path where to move? Thank you, gods, in advance.

Last week, I had to prepare three copies of my work, for each member of the jury. My school did not reply if they refunded such kind of expenses. Luckily, my colleagues from the library printed two copies for free, so I had only to pay the cover. No need in the third copy: one of the members of the jury said she had already did it. These small gestures are so touching and so important when one keeps body and soul together. Thank you, friends.

Such a perfect day

It’s really so rarely that I am proud of myself. I finally finished the work on the final version of my post-doc thesis and sent it printed, after numerous corrections and reviewing which took two months, to my reporter. Finally, my professors agreed that it can now go further! Let’s celebrate! And in one month and one week we’ll celebrate its defense!

Soyez vigilants ! Messages frauduleux

Bossez bien ! 🙂

Life is a story

31 May 2019, my contract as a touristic agent at the chĂąteau de Versailles came to its end. What happened after? 3 months of research on Hippocrates and of pure happiness of a free, liberated human being.

16 September, one week ago, I started to work again for one library (Gernet-Glotz / GG) dedicated to the sciences of Antiquity. The contract is for two months, just 15 hours per day and only 500 net euros per month, but these days I couldn’t believe I was back to the library. The difference between two jobs – tourstic agent and librarian – is huge, they’re like earth and heaven, so last week I was at heaven. It is not only quiet and you don’t need to communicate with thousands of angry, arrogant, barbarous, asking too many questions people all day long, but also it gives you some time to continue your work on your post-doc thesis.

The librarians have their lunch at the INHA restaurant. Not just them of course, but all the staff of all the research units and institutions in and around. So once upon a time (last Thursday) I came there, looked back and saw one of my ex-colleagues from Versailles! What a surprise! Such a small world! This guy from Columbia was one of the most amiable in our team, he always seemed to me to be the most fragile and most suffering from Versailles. Now he is here. And me, I’m here too.

– S., what are you doing here?

– And you?

– I’m a proud librarian!

– So am I!

I aksed my colleagues sitting at another table to excuse me, I’d rather have a lunch with my old friend S.

So we ate and talked, talked and ate…

I was so excited by this funny coincidence 🙂

In between

Between my work and my passion to do nothing and to walk far in order to do nothing, I have to find some space and time for Hippocrates and my mĂ©moire about the Hippocratic skin. Neither Paris nor Versailles offer me good enough possibilities to concentrate on writing. Even at home it has become difficult since the last october: I’m not alone even here.

That is why my fields and the quiet beauty of the Vexin français’ park turned into a perfect work-room where I can stay four hours long without suffering from noise, people and desire to make a break…
